Description
East Lodge at Balbirnie House, located in Balbirnie Park, dates from the mid to later 19th century. This single-storey lodge has a lower floor and is designed in an L shape with a piend roof. The exterior features stugged ashlar and dry dash, complemented by dressed quoins and an eaves course, with chamfered reveals.
On the south elevation, which serves as the entrance, there is a timber door set in an advanced stone porch to the right of the center. This porch has a piend roof, canted outer angles, and a moulded apex, with narrow windows on the returns. To the outer right, there is one window, and to the left, there are two windows.
The north elevation has an advanced bay on the left with two windows and three windows to the right. The lower floor projects to the left, featuring three boarded timber doors, while the detail on the right is obscured.
On the east elevation, there is a window to the left of center in a slightly advanced bay. The west elevation is blank.
The windows are timber sash and case, featuring various glazing patterns including 4, 8, and 10 panes, as well as plate glass. The building is topped with graded grey slates and has a two-flue ashlar stack with chamfered arrises and cans.
Additionally, there is a large square pyramidal coped ashlar gatepier with a base course, cavetto cornice, and a moulded blind tablet. The boundary walls are made of semicircular coped rubble.
