Description
45 Commercial Street in Markinch is an earlier 19th century, two-storey, three-bay house. It is constructed of squared, droved sandstone with ashlar dressings, featuring an eaves course and stone mullions.
On the southwest (entrance) elevation, there is a modern timber door at the center, a window in the bay to the right, and a later bipartite window to the left, with regular windows on the first floor. The southeast (street) elevation has a slightly advanced gable to the left, which includes a window on both floors and a blocked window at the center of the gablehead. There is a rear projection on rising ground to the right, featuring a window at both the ground and first floor.
The northeast elevation has a lower lean-to extension that spans the full width of the elevation, with a curved corner to the left where it meets a single-storey building to the right. The house has six-pane upper sashes with plate glass lower glazing in timber sash and case windows at the ground floor, and modern plate glass glazing in top-opening windows at the first floor. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are coped ashlar stacks with ashlar coped skew and ropework scroll skewputts.
The boundary walls are flat-coped rubble with decorative cast-iron railings.
