Description
7 Union Street in Montrose is an earlier 19th-century, two-storey and attic, three-bay house. The front is finished in sandstone ashlar, while the sides and rear are squared and snecked. The building features a base course, a band course above the ground floor, an eaves cornice, and a blocking course, with painted margins.
On the south elevation, there is a central recessed and pilastered doorpiece with a rectangular fanlight that has geometric glazing bars, leading to a six-panel door. Above this, a window is centered on the first floor, with additional windows in the flanking bays at both the ground and first floors. Bowed dormers above contain three-light windows. To the right, there is a single-storey lean-to that is fronted by a blocked ashlar gateway.
The east elevation has a blank gable end with a lean-to at the ground level. The west elevation features a gable end with a window to the right on the first floor.
The house has timber sash and case windows with plate glass, and a grey slate pitched roof. Brick gablehead stacks are topped with a full complement of polygonal cans.
The boundary walls consist of a coped stone wall at the front (south) that extends to the left (west), with gates to the right and left, and a large door to the left.
