Description

Earlier 19th century. Terrace of 4 2-storey, attic and basement, 3-bay houses in mirrored pairs. Sandstone ashlar to front, harled to sides, squared rubble to rear. Band course below and above ground floor, eaves cornice and blocking course, raised margins, raised quoins.

W (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: No 8 to right; bipartite and single window to right in basement. 6-step stone flight with cast-iron railings leading to entrance at raised ground floor, round-arch with recessed, pilastered doorway, fine decorative glazing bars to fanlight, 6-panel door. 2 architraved windows to right with panelled aprons. 3 windows at 1st floor centred above ground floor. Bowed, 3-light dormer off-set to right. No 9 to left; mirror image of No 8 but with single window in basement blocked. No 10; as No 8 but with door to left in basement. No 11; mirror image of No 8.

N ELEVATION: blank gable end.

S ELEVATION: blank gable end.

E ELEVATION: 2-bay rear elevation, small piended dormer to each house.

12-pane timber sash and case windows to Nos 8 and 9, plate glass to Nos 10 and 11. Grey slate roof, coped skews. Rendered gablehead stacks to N and S, ridge stack to centre, shouldered ashlar wallhead stack to left at rear (E).

INTERIOR: not seen 1998.

BOUNDARY WALLS: low, coped ashlar wall to front, Nos 8 and 9 with later steel railings. Rubble boundary walls to rear.
