9 School Street, Markinch

9 School Street in Markinch is a house built in the earlier to mid 19th century. It is a two-storey, three-bay structure with a rectangular plan and a lean-to extension at the rear. The front is made of droved ashlar, while the sides and rear are constructed from random rubble, featuring painted margins, base, and eaves courses.

The south elevation, which is the entrance side, is symmetrical. It has a part-glazed timber door with a letterbox fanlight at the center, flanked by windows, and regular windows on the first floor. The north elevation is mostly blank, with a stair window located to the right of center and a single-storey lean-to extension on the left. The west elevation has a boundary wall on the right side and a window on the left at the first floor. The east gable is blank.

The house features modern top-opening windows and is topped with grey slates. It has coped ashlar stacks with some cans and ashlar coped skews. The boundary walls are made of coped rubble.
