Description
16 Cromwell Road in Burntisland is a house built in the earlier to mid 19th century. It is a single-storey structure with a raised basement and features three bays, appearing as two storeys due to the sloping ground at the rear. The building has a piend and platform roof and is constructed from coursed, droved, and stugged ashlar, with droved long and short work margins and a base course.
The west elevation, which serves as the entrance, has architraved openings and a flight of steps leading to a panelled door with a plate glass fanlight above it, located at the centre of the first floor over part of the basement. There are windows in the flanking bays on both floors.
The east elevation is symmetrical, featuring a deep-set flush-panelled door with a six-pane fanlight at the centre, flanked by windows, with regular windows at the first floor. The timber sash and case windows have a 12-pane glazing pattern. The roof is covered with graded grey slates, and there are coped ashlar wallhead stacks with moulded cans.
Inside, the house includes some decorative plasterwork cornicing, timber fire-surrounds, and a stone stair.
Additionally, there is an outbuilding, boundary wall, and railings. The outbuilding is a single-storey rubble wash-house at part-basement level, with a door to the east and a window to the south, along with an adjacent stone water tank that drains into the wash-house. The boundary walls are made of coped rubble, featuring modern cast-iron railings as well as 19th-century cast-iron railings with a curved handrail.
