36 Main Street, Kirkliston Village

36 Main Street in Kirkliston Village is an early 19th-century house that is a single storey over a raised basement and has a rectangular plan with three bays. Originally, it was two vertically divided properties. The principal floor features ashlar stonework, while the lower floor is made of stugged squared sandstone rubble. The building has an eaves cornice, a band course, and a blocking course.

On the north (main) elevation, there is a door at the center that is accessed via a perron across the basement area. Wrought-iron railings curve to form a balconette at the left window. The entrance bay has been significantly altered; the door on the left has been blocked and converted into a window, and a smaller door has been inserted in the original opening on the right. The flanking bays contain windows, with the one on the right being smaller. There is a 12-pane sash and case window present. A basement stair is located to the left, along with a modern door and window at the basement level. The rear of the building has modern additions.

The gabled return elevations feature rendered gablehead stacks. The roof is covered with graded grey slate and has ashlar coping along the skews.
