Description

The Cottage, located at 5 Stob Cross Road in Markinch, is an earlier 19th-century building that has undergone later alterations and an addition. It is a single-storey, 6-bay cottage that was converted from a 2-bay structure, situated on a slope that descends to the south. The exterior features squared and snecked rubble with harl and ashlar quoins. Notable architectural details include stop-chamfered arrises and stone mullions.

On the east elevation, there is a panelled timber door with a plate glass fanlight at the center of the cottage, positioned to the right. Flanking this door are windows in the adjacent bays, along with an additional window in a single-bay piend-roofed extension to the outer right. To the left, there is a lower section of the cottage that includes a window to the right and a bipartite window to the left.

The windows are timber sash and case with a 4-pane glazing pattern. The roof is covered with pantiles, and there is an ashlar coped skew and a coped ashlar stack. Surrounding the property is a low semicircular-coped rubble boundary wall.
