Description
Rock Cottage, located at The Knapp, is an earlier 19th-century cottage with attic, rear, and side wings added in the mid-19th century. It is a single-storey and attic structure with an irregular plan. The exterior features rubble stugged window and door dressings with droved margins, hoodmoulds over the ground floor front, and stugged quoins on the later parts. The cottage has a slate roof and brick stacks with oversailing coping. The windows are modern timber casements that are double-glazed with an applied lead lattice design, and there are bracketted eaves.
On the southeast elevation, there is a modern door in the center of the main cottage, with windows to the left and right, and an attic window with a gable dormer above. A single-storey bay is slightly recessed to the left with a window in the center. The east gable has a window on the ground floor to the right and another window in the attic to the left. The west gable features a blind gable to the right and a modern glazed and slated addition at the left re-entrant. The northeast elevation is built into the fall of the ground and has a swept roof with seven large modern rooflights. The interior has not been seen.
