Description
Ash Cottage is a later 19th century cottage that has undergone some additions and alterations. It is a single-storey building with an attic, featuring a three-bay gabled design and a lower single-storey wing on the outer right, along with a lean-to timber addition beyond. The exterior is constructed from harl-pointed rubble, mostly sandstone, with droved sandstone dressings. It has overhanging timber bracketed eaves, droved quoins, and droved long and short surrounds around the openings, as well as projecting cills.
On the entrance elevation, there are steps leading up to a boarded timber door located in a slightly advanced central bay, which has a chamfered surround and a three-pane fanlight above it. To the outer left, there is a canted window at ground level, which is corbelled to a square and breaks the eaves above, where a timber-mullioned bipartite window is centered in the gablehead. To the right of the entrance, there is a single window at ground level and a triangular-headed window in the gabled wallhead dormer above. Additionally, there is a small single window in the lower single bay wing that is recessed to the outer right.
The rear elevation features various glazed additions. The cottage predominantly has lying-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows. It is topped with a grey slate roof and has cast-iron rainwater goods. The apex stacks are brick-built, with circular cans to the south and missing to the north.
The interior was not seen in 1997.
