Description
Longformacus Bridge is an earlier 19th century structure that has undergone later repairs. It features a single-arched, slightly humped design that spans the Dye Water. The bridge has rubble-coped walls that have been recently re-pointed, with some sections rebuilt. The segmental arches are constructed with rubble voussoirs. On the eastern wall, there is a much-weathered square sandstone plaque, possibly dated 1820, which displays a coat of arms. To the north of the inner face, there is a much-eroded rectangular panel dated 1851, featuring a decorative motif at its center, along with much-weathered carved figureheads on the outer left and right sides. The parapet walls at either end of the bridge are irregularly splayed.
