Description
1 The Row in Longformacus is an earlier 19th century house that has seen later additions and alterations. It is an asymmetrical single-storey building with an attic and features three bays, forming the end of an irregular terrace. The exterior is made of harl-pointed rubble sandstone with tooled cream sandstone dressings, and it has predominantly sandstone ashlar margins, some of which are chamfered, along with projecting cills.
On the southeast entrance elevation, there is a gabled porch that is advanced at the center, featuring a corbelled wallhead. A narrow light is centered at the ground level, with a blind rectangular niche above it. To the left, there is a modern timber panelled door with a chamfered surround. A single window is located at ground level in the bay recessed to the outer left. The gabled bay to the outer right has single windows on both floors, with a bird-shaped finial above.
The northwest rear elevation has single openings at ground level, offset to the left of center, and a full-length box dormer above. The building predominantly features modern uPVC glazing, with a 16-pane timber sash and case window centered in the front gable and a 6-pane timber porch light. The roof is covered in grey slate, with raised stone skews, sandstone ridging, and cast-iron rainwater goods. There is a stepped red brick apex stack to the southwest and a circular can.
The interior was not seen in 1997. In front of the house, there is a cobbled path that forms the end of a continuous stretch leading to the front of the terrace.
