Description
The Lodge at Longformacus House is a mid-19th century gate lodge with later additions and alterations. It is a single-storey building originally designed in a rectangular plan, featuring a symmetrical three-bay front elevation that has a slightly advanced central bay. The lodge has a flat-roofed addition at the rear, which includes a basement. The exterior is made of coursed and stugged cream sandstone, with sandstone ashlar dressings that are partially droved, and the rear addition is dry-dashed. Key architectural features include a raised base course, a moulded eaves course, and chamfered surrounds to the front windows.
On the southeast entrance elevation, there is a projecting gabled bay at the center that breaks the eaves, leading to a replacement boarded timber door with a four-pane fanlight above it. There is a blind oculus aligned above the door, along with moulded skewputts and a decorative finial. The ground floor features corniced canted windows in the flanking bays, each with parapets that break the eaves.
The southwest side elevation has single windows in both bays to the right, while a later recessed addition is located to the outer left. The northeast side elevation is a blind elevation to the original block, with a flat-roofed modern addition attached to the outer right. The northwest rear elevation was not visible in 1997.
The front windows are timber sash and case, featuring plate glass with four- and eight-pane glazing, while the sides have modern timber windows. The roofs are covered with grey slate, with a piended design, although the addition has a modern roof. Replacement rainwater goods are also present. An unusual stepped wallhead stack is centered on the southwest elevation, featuring a single circular can, alongside a modern stack at the rear.
