Description
42 Commercial Street in Markinch is a house from the later 18th century, featuring two stories and three bays, which completes an irregular terrace. The exterior is finished with harl and dry-dash.
The west elevation, which is the entrance side, is symmetrical. It has a modern timber door in the center, flanked by windows, and the first floor has regular fenestration close to the eaves.
The south elevation is blank, with a small blinded opening to the right at the gablehead.
On the north elevation, the ground floor is obscured by a boundary wall, but there is a window on the first floor to the right, with a small window above at the gablehead.
The windows are primarily timber sash and case, featuring a 4-pane glazing pattern, with plate glass glazing in the ground floor right window. The roof is covered with pantiles, and there is a slate easing course at the eaves. The chimney stacks are made of coped, squared rubble, with cans and thackstanes, and feature a stepped skew to the southeast and scroll skewputts.
The property is enclosed by semicircular-coped rubble boundary walls.
