Description
Heatheryhaugh is a picturesque Gothic villa, likely built around 1810 and later deepened in plan around 1828, contemporary with a dated garden bridge. The villa incorporates an earlier house to the rear, and both sections share a common long wall. It stands two storeys high, with a basement on the eastern side due to the slope above a stream.
The southern and western elevations are rendered to resemble ashlar, featuring mullioned windows with ogival-headed lights, while the rest of the building is harled and all is whitewashed with painted ashlar dressings. The symmetrical three-bay southern elevation includes a central porch with margined square design, gothick-panelled inner and outer doors, and hood-moulded tripartite windows in the outer bays of the ground floor. The first floor has three bipartite windows with a cill band, featuring plate glass sashes.
The western elevation is asymmetrical, showcasing margined openings and original pointed tracery in the windows and fanlight. The northern elevation has a canted centre, with upper windows that have had their mullions removed. The roof is a piended double-pitch slate design with projecting eaves, featuring axial stacks from the original house and end stacks from the addition.
Inside, there are gothick details present in the doors, window shutters, chimney-pieces, and fittings.
