Description
Combe Hill House is a Gothick country villa dating to the late 18th century. It is built of ashlar stone with slate roofs hidden behind an embattled parapet, and has ashlar stacks. The house has an irregular plan, with a curved east elevation, and sits upon a raised plinth above a cellar.
The three-bay south elevation is dominated by a full-height canted bay to the right, featuring three windows with glazing bars; the first-floor windows are sashes, and the centre ground-floor window has a Gothick fanlight. A single-bay section is set back to the right of the projecting bay, with a French window on the ground floor and a glazing bar sash window above. To the left is the recessed entrance front of two bays, with glazing bar sash windows and a panelled door to the right, topped by a pediment supported on brackets; a small gable, marking the end of a rear wing, breaks through the parapet.
The east elevation begins at the south with a full-height segmental bow of three glazing bar sash windows. The remainder of the east elevation is set on an inward radius, forming a concave plan, with five windows on the ground floor and three on the first, all glazing bar sashes. The centre windows of the bow and of the main front have round heads and Gothick glazing, a cill band runs under the first floor, and a moulded cornice sits above.
