Description

Coundon House and Sage Cottage are two houses that were formerly one, with an extension, dating from the mid-17th century and later. They are constructed from local lias stone that is cut and squared, with Has stone dressings, and feature clay pantiles over stone slate base courses between coped gables. The buildings have brick and stone chimney stacks and are arranged in an 'L' plan.

Both houses are two storeys tall with attics and consist of two bays, with extensions at right angles to each other. Coundon House has a 20th-century matching extension on its south gable. The east facade features mid-20th-century steel casement windows, with a 20th-century door situated between the original bays. The north gable of Coundon House displays hollow-chamfered mullioned windows, with a three-light window below and a two-light window above, both having labels, along with a single-light window with a hood mould in the attic and two stairlights at mezzanine levels.

Sage Cottage has a 19th-century plain mullion and surrounds on its north elevation, with a three-light window below and a two-light window above. It has a long extension to the west gable, which includes a boarded door set in a deep recess, topped with a bracketed timber flat hood, along with casement windows and a stable door. The interiors have not been seen, but reports indicate the presence of beams with curved step and run-out stops, the upper half of a spiral staircase alongside gable fireplaces, and some early roof trusses.
