Description
12 and 14 Wellgate is a house that was formerly two cottages, dating from the late 17th century and altered and enlarged in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of narrow coursed millstone grit with ashlar dressings and features stone slate roofs with overhanging eaves and two stone stacks with moulded caps.
The building has a three-unit, single depth plan and stands two storeys high. The street front displays a three-window range, with an off-centre doorway that has a 20th-century door, flanked by single three-light flush mullion windows with casements. Above, there are two three-light flush mullion windows with casements at eaves level. To the left, there is a gabled extension that is single storey with an attic, featuring a 16-pane casement window and a four-pane attic window above.
On the left return, there is a doorway with a 20th-century door and a two-light flush mullion window, with a similar three-light mullion window above. The right return is blank. The rear elevation has an outshot and scattered fenestration, which has been much altered. The interior has not been inspected.
