Description
This is an early 17th-century house located on Church Street South, Old Glossop, with a 20th-century extension to the rear. It is constructed of narrow coursed millstone grit with ashlar dressings, and has a stone slate roof and a stone ridge stack with watertabling.
The house follows a two-unit plan, originally incorporating service rooms to the rear, although the staircase position has been altered.
The front of the house is two storeys high and features an irregular three-window arrangement. A chamfered four-centred arch doorway is on the left, leading to a plank door. To the right is a 3-light casement window within a chamfered ashlar surround, followed by a doorway with a flush ashlar surround and a 20th-century door, and then a 5-light chamfered mullion window. Above, a 2-light sliding sash window is set in a chamfered ashlar surround, flanked by single 3-light chamfered mullion windows. The rear elevation is rendered, with a 20th-century single-story lean-to addition. A chamfered four-centred arch doorway with plank door is on the right, above which is a small, deeply recessed 3-light window. The remaining windows are irregular and contain 20th-century casement windows.
Inside, original beams remain on both floors. The ground floor beam to the right is chamfered with large triangular stops, revealing the joists and boarding.
