Description
Maypole Knap House is a detached house built in the early 19th century. It is constructed from local lias stone that is roughly cut and squared, with a Welsh slate roof on the higher portion and clay pantiles on the remainder. The house features brick chimney stacks and is two storeys tall, with three and four bays. The windows are small pane, 2-light casements of an earlier style, with deep stone lintels. There is no window in the upper bay 2, and the window in upper bay 4 is set into the lower roof. Below this window, there is a 6-panel door that is set under a flat stone hood supported by corbel brackets. Bay 5 has only a single light window, while bays 6 and 7 have higher level casements. The interior has not been seen. Maypole Knap House forms a good group with The Manse and Lomans. The house is named after a nearby field that hosted annual May Day festivities until around 1940.
