Description
Lomans is a detached house built in the early 19th century. It is constructed from local lias stone that has been cut and squared, topped with a Welsh slate roof featuring stepped coped gables. The house has two storeys and consists of four bays. The windows are sash style, with 16 panes in the upper sections and 20 panes in the lower sections, set in plain openings that have dovetailed stone lintels above and gauged stone flat arches below. The fourth bay on the lower level features French windows with large panes, while the second bay has a six flush panel door with a glazed toplight, sheltered by a flat stone hood supported by corbel brackets. The interior has not been seen.
The front garden is enclosed by a matching stone wall, approximately 1.1 metres high on the north side, and about 800mm high on the east side, which faces the road. This wall is capped with a cast iron fret that features Greek key and anthemion ornamentation. The garden also includes plain trapezoid plan piers with shaped tops that support a cast iron gate, which is also from the 19th century. This boundary wall and gate enhance the setting of the house, which is part of a notable group that includes The Manse and Maypole Knap House.
