Description

Pipers Green is a cottage dating from around 1700, constructed from local lias stone rubble that is roughly coursed, with a thatched roof featuring coped gables and brick chimney stacks. The building has a T-plan layout and stands two storeys tall with a two-bay east elevation. It features simple casement windows of various patterns, with the upper windows cut into the line of the thatch. On the north gable, there is a 20th-century porch that likely leads to the original gable entry. The interior has not been seen. It is believed to have been one of two cottages built for lime burners associated with a local stone quarry; the other cottage across the way appears to have been altered and contains an open fireplace and a circular stair, as noted in the Victoria County History, Volume III, published in 1974.
