Description

Hillhaven and former chapel. The house dates to the early 19th century, with the attached chapel of the same period. The house is constructed of local lias stone, squared and cut, with a Welsh slate roof to the chapel; the house roof is hidden behind a plain parapet. Brick chimney stacks are visible at the rear.

The house is two storeys high and has a west elevation featuring 16-pane sash windows with dovetailed stone lintols in the first bay. The second bay contains a 20th-century door and porch, with a small-paned casement window. The north elevation of the chapel, which abuts the house, has two 16-pane sashes with semi-circular, radially-glazed toplights set high in the wall. Below and between these windows is a pair of part-glazed boarded doors, topped by a semi-circular fanlight. The chapel’s west elevation has two larger, matching windows, with alterations to the lower sections. The interiors have not been inspected.

A boundary wall, approximately 1 metre high with shaped coping, extends from the corner of the former Bible Christian Schoolroom, across the forecourt to these two buildings. This wall enhances the group value of the properties. The wall includes square ashlar gate piers with plinths and four gabled tops, and a wrought and cast iron gate.
