Description

Number 27 (Queens Cottage) and Number 28 are two houses that date from the late 17th century to early 18th century. They are built of coursed limestone rubble with large squared quoins and wooden lintels, topped with a thatch roof featuring a brick ridge stack. The layout follows a two-unit lobby-entry plan with a rear outshut that has been subdivided. The buildings are two storeys tall and present a two-window front facing the garden.

The front has a blocked entrance situated between two casement windows; the left window was moved to make way for a 20th-century stone porch that now serves as the entrance, while the right window has been enlarged upwards but still retains its original three-light casement. The first floor features two unaltered three-light casements. The roof has stacks aligned with the blocked doorway. The gable walls display some stone banding, and the upper parts of the gables are made of brick. Both end walls have additional three-light casements, and to the right is the 20th-century stone porch for Number 28.

At the rear, there is a stone-walled outshut that has been further extended by a continuous weatherboarded outshut, all under a catslide roof with one dormer. Inside, the property features ogee chamfer stops on the beams and timber-framed partitions.
