Description
Yew Tree Cottage is a house dating from the mid-to-late 18th century, with later extensions added in the late 19th and 20th centuries. The construction is primarily brick, with some limestone ashlar dressings and flared brick headers, and a plain-tile roof with brick gable stacks. The original house was built on a 2-unit plan and has subsequently been extended. The front facade has three windows and is constructed of chequer brick, featuring an ashlar plinth, quoins, a storey band, and a moulded cornice. The outer bays contain 2-light casement windows, framing a central doorway with a 6-panel door, which sits below a small segmental-arched casement window. All window and door openings are defined by moulded stone architraves. A plain brick range forms the rear of the property, and a 20th-century extension is situated to the left. The interior includes a cellar with heavy beams and a spring. Graffiti on the right gable wall indicates dates of 1773 and 1778, marked as “AF 1778”.
