Description
Fairoak is a house dating from the late 16th century to early 17th century, with a 20th-century extension. It features timber framing with plastered and brick infill, along with some colourwashed brick, and has a thatched roof with a brick gable stack. The house has a two-unit plan and is one storey plus an attic. The left half of the front is timber-framed on a rendered rubble plinth and retains a small leaded three-light casement window, while the right half is obscured by a two-storey rendered extension from the 20th century that contains the main entrance. The left gable wall has a large rubble chimney projection with a brick shaft that rises away from the gable. The rear of the house has been rebuilt in late 18th century to early 19th century brick and features some segmental-arched leaded casements. There is a large 20th-century extension that returns on the right side to the rear. Inside, there is a large open fireplace with a bread oven and a flanking winder stair. The beams have ogee chamfer-stops, and the roof structure includes clasped purlins with queen-strut trusses.
