Description
The School House is a school house and school room, likely from the 17th century, which was remodeled and extended as a school in 1771 and further extended in the 19th century. It is constructed of brick in Flemish bond with some limestone rubble and features an old plain-tile roof with a brick ridge stack. The building has a two-unit plan and is one storey plus an attic. The irregular front includes a central plank door and four casement windows with two and three lights, all featuring segmental arches except for the window immediately to the left of the entrance, which has a rubbed and gauged flat arch. There are two gabled dormers on the right and one on the left. The stack, located to the right of centre, has two narrow brick shafts, while the rear wall is made of rubble. A rear wing, returning to the right, is built in 19th-century brick with yellow dressings. Inside, there are large back-to-back stacks that include an inglenook fireplace with a herringbone tile fireback and a blocked bread-oven. The interior also features stop-chamfered beams and a winder stair beside the stack.
