Description

GV II

Pair of cottages. Late C17/early C18, extended early C19 and C20. Timber framing with brick infill and brick, old plain-tile roofs with brick gable stacks. Single-unit plans with added rear outshuts and extensions. One storey plus attics. Timber-framed 2-window front of earlier section has, to left (No.38), a plank door and a 3-light casement; adjoining former doorway to No.39 is now a window and there is a further C20 casement to right of it. Roof has 2 gabled 2-light dormers. To left of range is a single-storey gable-fronted early C19 extension in buff brick; to right, also breaking forward, is the gable wall, a large late C20 brick extension which returns to rear. Rear of main range has been extended, probably in early C19, below a shallower-pitched roof. Interior not inspected. Included for group value. (V.C.H.: Oxfordshire, Vol.V, p.31).
