Description
Hunters Gap is a house located in Toot Baldon, originally built in the 17th century and later extended in the 19th and 20th centuries. The structure features timber framing with plastered and brick infill, topped with a thatched roof and brick gable stacks. It has a two-unit through-passage plan with an extended stair wing, and consists of one storey plus attics.
The front facade has two windows and an entrance to the right of center, along with a second entrance to the left and a casement window to the right. Gabled dormers are present on the first floor, although some of the first-floor framing has been renewed. The right gable wall showcases a large stone chimney and a prominent bread-oven projection, while the left gable wall features a brick chimney projection.
To the left, there is a single-storey brick and tiled extension from the 19th century, which includes a segmental-arched three-light casement with plank shutters on its end wall. The rear of the house has a central timber-framed stair tower with a hipped roof and leaded casement, now flanked by 20th-century lean-to extensions.
Inside, there is a large open fireplace with a stop-chamfered bressumer and narrow-brick lining, a winder stair, and a clasped-purlin roof with straight wind braces, some of which have been partly renewed.
