Description
Combes is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations and extensions made in the 20th century. It features a timber-framed structure with plastered panels, and some parts have been rebuilt in brick. The roof is thatched with gable ends, and there is a gable-end stack with a rebuilt brick shaft.
The house has a two-room plan with a central entrance, likely leading into a larger room on the right that is heated by a gable-end fireplace. In the 20th century, the partition between the two rooms was partly removed, and a single-storey rear outshut and a single-storey wing were added to the right side.
The exterior is one storey with an attic and has a two-window front. It features 20th-century metal-framed casements set within the frame panels. There is a 20th-century plank door at the centre, accompanied by a 20th-century open gabled porch. To the right is a single-storey wing added in the 20th century, while the left end has a 20th-century bay window and a three-light window with leaded panes above in the gable. At the rear, the thatch extends over a half-dormer, with a single-storey outshut on the left and a single-storey 20th-century wing on the left end, both covered with plain-tile roofs.
Inside, the house is said to have a partly removed partition between the two ground-floor rooms, stop-chamfered ceiling beams, and an open fireplace with a bressumer.
