Description

Upper House is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. The building features a painted timber frame with painted brick infill on the first floor, while the ground floor is constructed of rubble stone. It has plain-tile roofs with bargeboards, and includes one integral and one projecting 19th-century brick gable-end stack. The house has a four-bay range that is two storeys high with an attic, aligned east-west, and has a single-storey end extension.

The south front displays square framing that is two panels high. There are two metal two-light casements on the first floor and two metal three-light casements on the ground floor, along with a central wide six-panel boarded door that is topped by a projecting 20th-century gabled canopy. To the left, there is a single-storey tiled gabled end extension featuring a moulded mullion and transom window.

On the north side, the first floor also has square framing that is two panels high, with two casements on each floor. The right-hand first-floor casement retains a 17th-century moulded sill supported by two carved brackets. There is a single-storey extension to the right.

The east gable end includes a gable-end truss with a straight moulded tie beam that has an ovolo chamfer, along with a twin trenched-purlin roof. The truss is infilled with brick, and there is a two-light casement in the attic.

Inside, the first floor features ovolo-chamfered bridging beams.
