Description

Hope Court is an early 19th-century house constructed of brick on a rubble plinth, topped with a hipped slate roof featuring deep eaves. The building has brick stacks that partly project from the ends and consists of a central three-bay range flanked by wings.

The exterior facade is three stories high with a three-window arrangement of sashes that have gauged rubbed brick lintels. Each bay is defined by full-height recessed wall panels, with the central bay being narrower. The first floor has a central 6/6 sash flanked by 8/8 sashes, while the second floor features a central 3/3 sash flanked by 4/4 sashes. The ground floor includes a tripartite sash with configurations of 4/4, 8/8, and 4/4 on either side of a central stone projecting porch. This porch is enclosed by a pair of panelled doors with a fanlight above, and it has round-headed tall casements set in recessed panels on the sides. The porch is supported by a projecting pair of Tuscan columns that hold up an entablature. There are also two stone segmental-arched cellar openings.

To the left of the main structure is a single-storey flanking wing featuring four full-height 9/12 sashes, with the outer three projecting and a similar window on the return wall. The side wall has two additional similar windows, all of which have gauged brick lintels. The building is topped with a cornice and parapet adorned with ball finials at the leading corners. A matching 20th-century wing has been added to the right side.

On the sides, there is a single 6/6 sash on each side, along with a 3/3 sash at the second floor on the left side. The rear of the building has a 3/3 sash on the left at the second floor, while the rest is covered by three projecting two-storey gabled wings. The interior has not been inspected.
