Description

Little Thatch is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 20th century. It is timber-framed and plastered, with some exposed framing, and has a thatched roof. The house has four bays aligned east to west, featuring an axial stack in the second bay from the western end. An 18th- or 19th-century extension runs along most of the north side, incorporating a catslide roof. The east gable end faces the road, with the timber frame visible at this end. The house is one storey high with attics. There are two 20th-century casement windows on the ground floor, and one on the first floor. A door is located in a lean-to porch on the left return wall. Interior features include jowled posts, straight braces at the corners trenched inside studs, chamfered transverse beams with lamb's tongue stops, and plain vertical section joists supported on pegged clamps. The house contains two large wood-burning hearths; the eastern one has a chamfered mantel beam with lamb's tongue stops, while the western one has a rounded back. The upper storey has not been inspected.
