Description
Queens Meade is a house dating from the 17th century, altered and extended in the 20th century. The house is timber-framed and originally cased in whitewashed brick, with a thatched roof. A projecting chimney stack is visible on the left-hand gable, featuring tiled offsets and tumbled brickwork, with two diagonal shafts and sailing courses. A second chimney stack is located on the rear wall. The house is 1½ storeys high. The two left-hand bays are original 17th-century construction, retaining timber framing cased in brick. Modern leaded glazing is found in two square bay windows and in the central window of the original doorway. A four-window 20th-century addition extends to the right-hand side, with a continuation of the roofline and matching windows. A two-storey rear wing, also from the 20th century, is present with a higher thatched roof. The interior of the original 17th-century bays reveals exposed timber framing, including a cambered tiebeam to the left-hand gable.
