Description
Little Thatch is a house located on Beckford Road in Ashton Under Hill. It dates back to the 17th century and has undergone alterations and additions in the mid-20th century. The structure is timber-framed with rendered infill on a rubble base, featuring painted brick replacement walling and a thatched roof. The house consists of two framed bays aligned east to west, with a large external chimney at the north end that has offsets, a bread oven, and a rebuilt brick stack. It is a single storey with an attic that includes dormers.
The framing of the house includes three panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with a collar and tie-beam truss at the north end, struts, and a V-strut in the apex. The west front elevation has windows that are all 2-light 20th-century leaded casements. There are two ground floor windows with plank weatherings and two eyebrow dormers. The roof extends down above the main entrance, located to the left of the south bay, creating a thatched porch supported by timber posts, with a 20th-century door. The south gable end has attic lights. Additionally, there is a 20th-century single-storey extension at the south end and at the rear of the building. The interior has not been inspected.
