Description
Middle Farmhouse is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It dates from the 17th century and was altered and extended around 1800 and in the mid-19th century. The building is constructed of limestone rubble with ashlar dressings and has a plain tiled roof. It has an L-shaped plan, with the original 17th-century section aligned east to west, featuring a large external chimney and a bread oven on the north side. This original part was refronted by a large two-bay west range, which includes external chimneys with offsets and moulded cappings—one at the north gable end and the other on the west front elevation.
The farmhouse is two storeys high, with an attic and cellar. The west front elevation features windows and an entrance that have hoodmoulds with returns. The windows are all 20th-century casements, with two three-light windows on the ground floor and three two-light windows on the first floor. The central entrance has a 4-centred head, relief carvings in the spandrels, and a 20th-century door. There are attic lights in the gable ends, and the south gable end retains its ovolo-moulded mullioned windows. A mid-19th-century single-storey kitchen wing is attached to the original range on the southeast side. Inside, the original part retains its timber-framed west wall, and there is a large fireplace in this section and at the north end of the front west range.
