Description
Bredon Holt is a house located on Elmley Road in Ashton Under Hill. Originally built in the 17th century, it was later divided into two dwellings, underwent alterations in the mid-19th century, and was extended in the mid-20th century. The building is constructed of limestone rubble and features a thatched roof with ridge end stacks. It has two bays that are aligned east to west, with large chimneys at each end. The house is a single storey with an attic that includes dormers.
On the south front elevation, the ground floor has a 2-light and a 3-light casement window, along with two eyebrow dormers that each have 3-light casements. There are entrances to both bays, each with a thatched porch supported by timber posts and trellis infill, leading to a ledged and battened door. The east gable end has attic lights. At the west gable end, there is a substantial two-storey cross-wing added in the 20th century, also featuring limestone and thatch.
Inside, there is a central timber-framed partition with a collar and tie-beam truss that has two collars. The main ceiling beams are stop-chamfered. The east bay includes a large fireplace with a bread oven and a salt-drying shelf, as well as an elm winder stair.
