Description

ASHTON UNDER HILL CP ELMLEY ROAD (east side) SO 9837 - 9937 SO 9839 - 9938 7/27 Old Beams 11/27 GV II

House. Late C16 with mid-C19 and mid-C20 alterations. Timber-framed with rendered infill in limestone rubble base, limestone rubble south end wall and thatched roof, half-hipped at north end. Three framed bays aligned north/south; the large central bay has a massive external rubble chimney with a bread oven to its rear east elevation. Single storey and attic with dormers. Framing: two panels from sill to wall-plate, truncated collar and tie-beam truss with struts at north end. West front elevation: windows are all C20 casements. There is a 3-light window and two single-light windows on the ground floor and a central eyebrow dormer with a 2-light window. Main entrance to left of central bay has a thatched porch on timber posts and a C20 door. Attic light in gable ends. There is a C19 single-storey kitchen wing at rear. Interior: large central fireplace and winder staircase in south bay.
