Description
Oak Beams and White Hermitage is a 17th-century timber-framed house that has been divided into two residences. The main part of the building was refronted in chequered brick in 1710. It features plain tile roofs, with a ridge stack on the main range and a side stack on the crosswing. The house is two storeys high with an attic.
No 48, the main range, has a raised plinth and a brick band. It is double-fronted with two pairs of casement windows on each floor, and the lower windows have cambered heads. There is an off-centre door with a cambered head, and above it, the first floor shows a trace of a blocked window. A date plaque to the right indicates the year 1710. The east end wall has exposed square-framing with angle braces.
No 50, the lower crosswing, also has exposed framing and painted brick. It features 20th-century metal casements on each floor at the front and a door on the west side. There is a 20th-century extension at the north end.
