Description

Barton Cottage and Pollards are a late 17th-century house, originally a single dwelling, now divided into two separate properties. The house is constructed of painted brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with ashlar stone detailing and a pantiled roof. A chimney stack is located on the west end.

The west-facing front of the original house is formal, featuring two stories and five windows. The windows are 2-light recessed mullion windows with ovolo mouldings. The central entrance has a six-panel door, set above a rubble stone plinth. A dripcourse runs along the front, stepped over the door, and a coved eaves cornice finishes the building. Flush quoins are present. A matching one-window addition of the same design has been built onto the west end, with a 3-light mullion window on each floor.

The east end features an attic with a 2-light window with a dripstone. There are also two first-floor 2-light windows with hood moulds and a dripcourse, as well as a half-glazed door and a 2-light window. A rear wing, primarily of 20th-century construction, adjoins the main building, although it incorporates one original ground-floor 2-light window.
