Description
The cottage dates to the late 16th century and was restored and extended in the mid-20th century. It is a timber-framed building with rendered infill on a limestone rubble base and a half-hipped thatched roof. The original structure consists of two framed bays aligned north/south, featuring a large external chimney with a brick ridge stack at the south end, now partially enclosed by a single-bay 20th-century addition that continues the main roofline. The cottage is single-storey with an attic containing dormers. The timber framing displays two and three panels from sill to wall-plate, with a truncated collar and tie-beam truss incorporating struts at the north end. The west front has 20th-century leaded casement windows; the original part contains two ground-floor 2-light windows, two eyebrow dormers containing a 2-light and a 3-light window, and the main entrance to the left of the south bay, which features a thatched porch supported by timber posts and a 20th-century door. The southern addition has a 3-light ground-floor window and an eyebrow dormer with a 2-light window. A 20th-century lean-to addition extends along the full length of the rear elevation. Internally, a large fireplace is retained.
