Description
Yew Tree Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century and restoration in the mid-20th century. It is timber-framed with a rendered exterior and replacement walling, topped by a half-hipped thatched roof. The cottage consists of two framed bays oriented north-east to south-west, with a probable former external chimney at the rear north-east end, now enclosed by later additions. It is a single storey with an attic that features dormers. The framing includes a partly visible wall-plate and a truncated collar and tie-beam truss with two struts at the south-west gable end.
On the south-west front elevation, the windows are 19th-century metal casements. The ground floor has two 2-light windows with cambered heads, and there are two eyebrow dormers cut into the thatch, each with 2-light casements. The main entrance, located on the right side, features a 20th-century gabled porch, which contains a ledged and battened door with a cambered head. A brick stack is positioned to the left of the front ridge, and there are attic lights in the gable ends. The interior has not been inspected. A 20th-century single-storey addition is attached to the rear left, and a 20th-century extension connects to the north-east end via a passageway.
