Description
Reid Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century and restoration in the late 20th century. It features a timber frame with painted brick infill and replacement walling, topped by a thatched roof. The cottage has two framed bays oriented north to south and an external chimney at the south end, which has a brick stack now enclosed by a brick addition. It is a single storey with an attic that includes dormers. The framing consists of three panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with short straight braces in some upper corners, and no visible trusses.
On the west front elevation, there are four 19th-century leaded casement windows: two on the ground floor and two eyebrow dormers above. The entrance, located to the right of centre, features a thatched lean-to brick porch with a 20th-century door. Inside, there are stop-chamfered main ceiling beams, and while the gable-end walls have been replaced, the frame remains largely intact. A large fireplace is located in the south bay. Additionally, there is a large L-shaped 20th-century extension at the north gable end, which includes the current main entrance.
