Description

Galtons Cottage is an early 17th-century house situated on the west side of Galtons Lane in Belbroughton, Worcestershire. The house was restored in the mid-20th century. It is timber-framed with rendered infill and has a machine-tiled roof. The building consists of three framed bays aligned north/south. A large sandstone chimney is located in the central bay, accompanied by a brick stack along the ridge. The house is single-storied with an attic, featuring dormers. The timber framing displays two panels from sill to wall-plate, with short straight braces in some upper corners. A collar and tie-beam truss with struts remains visible at the north gable end. The east front has 20th-century casement windows, including a two-light, a three-light, and two single-light windows on the ground floor. A central gabled dormer is positioned above a two-light window. The central entrance has a 20th-century door and a lean-to tiled canopy supported by brackets, extending over the adjacent two-light window. There are attic lights in the gable ends. Internally, the rear wall-frame, cross-frames, and roof structure remain largely intact, along with a large fireplace and a winder staircase in the central bay. A large 20th-century addition is present at the rear of the property.
