Description
The Cottages is a pair of houses, now functioning as one, dating from the 17th century. They were restored and altered in the mid-20th century. The structure is timber-framed with painted brick infill and some weatherboarding, topped with a plain tiled roof. The building consists of three framed bays aligned east to west, with chimneys located in the outer bays adjoining the central walls, featuring brick stacks at the rear of the ridge. There are single-bay 20th-century additions at the west end. The building is a single storey with an attic that includes dormers.
The south front elevation features all 20th-century leaded casement windows, including three 2-light windows with plank weatherings and a large 6-light oriel window on the ground floor, along with four gabled dormers that have 2-light windows. The entrance, located to the right of the central bay, has a 20th-century gabled canopy supported by brackets and a 20th-century door. An addition to the right includes a rectangular ground floor light, and there are attic lights in the gable ends. The interior retains two large fireplaces, and there is a 20th-century extension at the rear.
