Description

Magpie Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations and additions made in the mid-19th and mid-20th centuries. The building features a combination of part timber framing with painted brick infill and replacement walling, as well as sections of painted brick. It has plain tile roofs and consists of two framed bays aligned east to west, with a large chimney at the west end that has a stack extending to the rear of the ridge. The cottage is a single storey with an attic that includes dormers. The framing consists of three panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with short straight braces in some upper corners, and no trusses are visible.

On the north front elevation, there are two 20th-century ground floor 2-light casements and two gabled dormers with 2-light casements. A plank and battened door is located to the left of centre. Inside, there is a large fireplace. At the time of the survey in August 1985, a large 20th-century wing was under construction at the rear.
