Description
Rose Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century and mid-20th century. It is timber-framed, featuring rendered wattle-and-daub and painted brick infill on a sandstone base, along with some brick replacement walling and a slate roof. The cottage has two framed bays that are aligned east to west and includes an external rubble chimney with a detached brick stack at the east end. It is a single storey with an attic, which has a dormer.
The framing consists of three rows of square panels extending from the sill to the wall-plate, with a collar and tie-beam truss that has struts visible at the east end. On the south front elevation, there is a ground floor 2-light 20th-century casement window and a 3-light 19th-century casement window. The central gabled dormer features a 3-light 20th-century casement. The main entrance, located to the right of the center, has a 20th-century flat-roofed glazed timber porch and a partly-glazed 20th-century door. The attic also has lights, and there is a 20th-century lean-to addition at the rear.
