Description
The Haven is a former forge that has been converted into a house, dating from around 1675, with alterations made in the mid-19th century and mid-20th century. The building features a timber frame with painted brick and rendered infill set on a sandstone base, partly rendered, and has a slate roof with a brick ridge stack. It consists of three framed bays aligned in a north-west to south-east direction, although it is actually a four-bay range; the north-westernmost bay now forms part of Broom Cottage. The structure is single storey with an attic that includes half-dormers. The framing consists of three rows of rectangular panels extending from the sill to the wall-plate, and no trusses are visible.
On the south-west front elevation, there is a ground floor two-light casement window with plank weathering, along with three half-dormers—two of which are gabled and one that has a flat roof—each containing two-light casements. The main entrance is located in the central bay and features a flat canopy supported by shaped brackets above a half-glazed door. At the rear, there is a lean-to outshut.
