Description

Moor Farmhouse is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It likely dates from the early 17th century, with alterations and additions from the early 18th century and further changes in the mid-20th century. The building features a mix of roughcast sandstone rubble and timber framing with rendered infill on a sandstone base, along with painted brick replacement walling and refacing. The roofs are plain tiled.

The structure has a T-plan layout, with the main range consisting of three bays aligned north to south, and a west wing attached to the south of the center. At the junction of these two sections is a large rubble chimney with two brick shafts. The 18th-century timber-framed cross-wing, which has about four bays, is located at the south end and features an external rubble chimney at its west end. The farmhouse is two storeys tall.

The framing of the 18th-century wing includes three rows of square panels from the sill to the wall-plate, and a collar and tie-beam truss at the rear with a V-strut in the apex. The east front elevation shows the main range with three bays, and all windows are 2-light 20th-century casements. The main entrance, located to the left of center, has a 20th-century gabled timber porch and door. The 18th-century wing has two 2-light 20th-century casements at both ground floor and attic levels in its east gable end. Additionally, there is a lean-to addition at the north end of the main range.

Inside, the farmhouse is noted to retain an early 17th-century staircase featuring turned balusters, square newels, and a heavy square handrail. The west wing is recorded to have some moulded ceiling beams and an early 18th-century fireplace with a moulded surround.
