Description

Brook House is probably a house dating from the mid- to late 17th century, with alterations and additions made in the mid-20th century. It is timber-framed with painted brick infill, built upon a sandstone base, and features some replacement sandstone and painted brick walling. The roof is mainly slate, with a brick stack on the right side. The three bays of the house are aligned north-east/south-west, with a shallow gabled projection to the rear of the south-west bay. There is an external rubble chimney with a brick stack at the north-east gable end.

The house has two storeys. The timber framing is irregular, consisting mostly of five panels from the sill to the wall-plate. The north-west front elevation has 20th-century casement windows of two lights, with three windows on each floor. The main entrance, in the south-west bay, is protected by a 20th-century gabled porch, which contains a half-glazed 20th-century door. A 20th-century lean-to addition containing a garage door extends from the south-west end, and a further 20th-century glazed lean-to addition is located at the rear.
